Let’s talk about tracheostomies!

A tracheostomy or "trach" is a tube inserted into the throat below the vocal cords. It provides an open airway directly to the lungs. Air that normally goes in and out the mouth and nose instead goes in and out the trach. This can impact a person's ability to speak and swallow.

Did you know?…

  • People with trachs can use their voices.

  • Having a trach does not mean that you can’t eat or drink.

  • The change in airflow can change the way food and drink taste.

  • A speaking valve does not make your voice sound “mechanical”. It helps restore your own voice.

  • Everyone is different! Some people need their trachs for just weeks or months, while others need them for years.

You are not in this alone!

We would love to partner with you to achieve your voice and swallowing goals, help you connect with others, and make your trach journey the best it can be!
